Lilac
The 1st cultivations of Lilacs in Europe took place in the middle of the 20th century, and the majority of species developed are being sold till today. Flowers are excessively odorous and attractive for bees, butterflies and birds. They say that in the late seventeenth century fur traders have grown Lilac bushes on Macanac Island; till now people enjoy these lovely bushes.
Lilacs are famous shrubs grown in cottage gardens of England. The cut flower is much showier than the shrub with long branches where flowers borne.
Lilacs are available from October till May in white, mauve, and violet and pink. The flowers in purple shades, which are distinguished by their stronger smell, grow only in spring for a very short period of time; it is about six weeks. The cut flowers enjoy the vase life for 3-7 days.
Lilac is widely used both in flower arrangements and alone. It represents an outstanding accent in spring designs.

Delphinium
It is very important to know about poisonous nature of delphinium. Being a poisonous plant at the same time it got used in herbal medicine. The Delphinium is the member of the Ranunculaceae family, including more than 300 species of flowers which are inhabitants of the northern hemisphere.
This plant is widely utilized as great filler in floral arrangements and various designs.
By the way, its juice mixed with alum make up blue ink.
The majority of this species are available any time of the year from different sources (domestic and international breeders and growers). The flower’s colors are blue, lavender, purple, white, salmon and yellow. If it is cut out its life lasting is about one- two weeks. However it should be cared and handled in a proper way. Delphiniums' vase life ranges from 7-14 days, depending on care-and-handling practices.

Chrysanthemum
The name of chrysanthemum is derived from the Greek words "krus anthemon" that is translated as ‘gold flower’. The flower originates from Europe, Asia and South Africa. Being one of the representatives of the Compositae family this flower is aromatic annual and perennial herbs having from 100 to 200 species.
The flower has a lot of alternative names. Some of them are pompoms, spiders, Fuji's and daisies. Chrysanthemums are available in a vast variety of sizes shapes of spiders, spoons, buttons and blooms. The flowers’ colors are white, yellow, orange, pink, red and purple, etc.
The Chinese consider this flower the highest one; they even gave their royal throne the name in honor of chrysanthemum. This special flower is displayed on Japan's imperial weapon and flag. Japanese people held a national holiday dedicated to chrysanthemums. The celebrations fall on the 9th of September.
Germans adorn their houses with white chrysanthemums on the occasion of Christmas; thus they say welcome to baby Jesus. According to Feng Shui this flower brings laughter and happiness to your home. However some peoples believe this flower brings misfortune if keep it at home. The reason of their belief is the flower’s association with funerals and All Saints Day.
Thanks to contemporary growing and breeding methods the flowers are available during the whole year with average life’s lasting of one or even two weeks.

Agapanthus
Agapanthus is not a lily but an amaryllis. Being a member of the Amaryllidaceae it falls into the families of Agapanthus orientalis and Agapanthus africanus.
It represents a genus of flower plants that is made up of 6-10 species of herbs originated from South Africa. The main season of this plant is the summer; however some types may blossom in early April and even late December. The plant may be divided into two major groups. The 1st one is evergreen and the 2nd one is deciduous species which loses its leaves in winter.
African lily is distinguished by its tall stem without leaves. The flowers are growing in clusters being of funnel shape and having numerous shades of blue to white colors. Nowadays the plants may be met in other colors as the result of hybridization.
Agapanthus Plant Care
Summer
African lily thrives in a sunny and sheltered place, no matter either in the garden, on a terrace or balcony.
For proper care the plants require regular watering and feeding with fertilizer. It is very important to avoid the soil getting dry. In addition it demands drainage.
Winter
Deciduous agapanthus is possible to be over wintered. The plant should be kept in the darkness with the temperature of about 5 degrees C. It may be placed in the cellar or garage without necessity of being watered.
Growing in warm climate agapanthus can be kept in the garden bed. However to protect from frost it should be mulched well.
Evergreen agapanthus is possible to be over wintered in a cool, light area. Such places may be entrances, unheated hallways, landings without draughts or a cold greenhouse. This group of plant should be watered sometimes in order to prevent the loss of moisture.

Field Woodrush
Luzula campestris represents a rush, which bears the common name of Field Wood-rush or Good Friday Grass. It is the member of the family Juncaceae.
This plant can be found throughout temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It can be met on all kinds of grassy areas, for instance, lawns, golf-courses and fields.
Field Wood-rush can grow from 5 cm up to 15 cm long, spreading by means of short horizontal stems. The stems give rise to new plants at the terminals. The flowers are borne in stem less clusters.
The plant bears deep green leaves covered by long silk-like hairs. This rush can be also named Good Friday Grass due to the fact it emerges around Easter time.

Heather

Scotch Heather or Ling Heather represents an evergreen branching shrub. Its scientific name is Calluna vulgaris, that is derived from the Greek word “Kallune,” that means “to clean or brush,” and the Latin word “vulgaris,” that means “common,” with the reference to the fact its twigs were once used for creating brooms.
Heather is the inhabitant of such courtiers as Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia, Russia and North America.
The flower’s blooming time is late summer, from late July to November in the northern hemisphere. It is very interesting that in winter season the flowers may get brown color but still remain on the plants.
